Monday morning after a huge snowstorm, I found all my wheels were stolen and my car was on blocks. After calls to both the car repair shop and the insurance company I hope things are finally moving. As of Friday morning no wheels were ordered yet. (Whats the deal? I dont know).

It is now Saturday and 60 degrees. All the snow is melted. I have found almost all of my locknuts on the ground where the car once sat. If and when the factory replacement wheels come in to the repair shop, only then will they lift the car up and find out what sort of damage was done to the underbody. My assumption is that there is damage to at least the side skirt body kit and maybe the front as well. I saw the tow truck driver drop the cars brake rotor onto a chain while trying to secure it.

Yippy.

At least the tires on the stolen wheels were about ready to be replaced. they had over 32000 miles on them. I am going to stick with factory wheels and hope that those do not get stolen also.

Here is how it looked when we first bought it:

Our 2007 Honda Fit

______

Well, yesterday morning I woke to find my Honda Fit up on plastic 2 liter bottle carriers and all of my wheels stolen. Every lug nut was a wheel lock which obviously did not deter or prevent anything. Whoever did it must have a pretty crappy life to be stealing wheels. Karma will come around for them. There is no point getting angry about it.

Stolen Wheels from My Honda Fit

Little do they know, that the tires on the rims were about ready to be replaced sometime this year. They had about 35000 miles on them. The rims themselves are about as cheap of an aftermarket wheel as you can buy. Sixteen inch flat black wheels.

After waiting 5.5 hours for the tow truck that claimed it would be there within an hour, I got to watch them pull the car up onto the flatbed. I thought maybe they would have a special technique for getting it up there without trashing the car. Their technique was just pull it up with a chain. Luckily the plastic blocks underneath the car worked as a sled and didnt allow too much sliding on the actual ground.

The plastic blocks did however rub across the side skirts of the body kit – which I assume will be repaired/replaced by the repair shop which is also covered by insurance. I watched the disc of the brakes bounce off of the chain on the flatbed truck. And who knows if the front of the car has any damage from resting on the ground.

I know big oil and big coal companies already have their hooks in the government but with hope we might be able to change the course. Clean Coal is just a name that tries to hide what it really is. Researching and utilizing this method of energy capture will only postpone the wide use of actual clean and renewable energy sources. Clean Coal still consumes quite a bit of petroleum. The coal has to be dug up, or scraped from the surface of the earth with large gas powered vehicles. Then the coal has to be transported to a clean coal facility.

How environmentally friendly is the coal that is scraped from huge areas of our landscape? I can imagine large ecosystems being irreversibly damaged or fully wiped out with the scraping or digging for coal.

Since there are already large stores of coal and land owned with the purpose of gathering the coal from it, I think this technology will still be fully realized, ignoring all of the negatives.

The positive? Slightly less reliance on the almighty OIL.
