Stroh 80 – the 160 Proof Rum – thats 80% alcohol. It smells harsh but tastes sweet and smooth, especially with coke. I am posting this because I want to. It may be 1 to 2 percent real rum mixed with a neutral alcohol distilled from molasses, sugar cane, grain, and potatoes. yum. Some use it for cooking, I prefer it with coke and ice.

“Stroh is made from genuine overseas rum (sugar cane distillate) and is turned into a “spiced rum” (product category) by adding a small number of components after a secret, traditional recipe held by the Stroh family.
The original rum is not a barrel-aged rum. It is stored in casks for a period of up to 3 years. The “secret” components of the final product apart from rum are basically natural herbs and spices as well as a touch of vanilla.
The brand Stroh is over 170 years old. Stroh is well known in over 30 countries. Over 10 million bottles are sold every year. Stroh 80 has cult appeal, being ABV 80% VOL or 160 Proof! Stroh has an unmistakeably unique aroma and flavour – Regarded by many as the finest dark Inlander rum.
For more than 170 years Stroh-branded spirits and liqueurs stand for outstanding quality and exceptional taste. In 1832 Sebastian Stroh started the unrivalled Austrian story of success. Ever since, Stroh is keeping pace and continues to surprise permanently with new, innovative products. Stroh clearly stands out from the regular range of “Inlander Rum” products simply by its unique aroma and is the one and only champion of its segment.
Quality does not stop at Austrian borders. Stroh is available in more than 30 countries, appreciated for it?s particular aroma and great taste. The brand Stroh represents Austrian art and quality of life.”
“STROH stands for ‘the spirit of Austria’. This rum is the favourite in Austria and Germany and produces over 10 million bottles a year. It can be used as a base for many cocktails or can be drank with a dash of cola or simply over ice. Drinking this 80 % ABV member of the STROH family is described as an extreme sport, and is not for the faint hearted!”
“At 80% alcohol (160 Proof) many are pleasantly surprised by the complex aroma and unique taste that is converting them to the joys of STROH 80.”
“STROH 80 is THE Cult Drink”
“Stroh 80 is considered too inflammable to have anywhere on an airplane”

They stopped selling this in Michigan about 2 years ago. Does anyone know any other states that sell it? Do they sell it in Ohio or Indiana, or how about in Canada?
I have a guy special order it for me in New Jersey. It should be easy for any retailer to order it.
It can be special ordered by the case in Utah, and partial cases if you find the right stores in Wisconsin. I love it, either on the rocks or with Coke(NOT Pepsi, NOT Diet). In Vegas, in the MGM Grand’s Rum Bar it was present, but I haven’t been in a while.
Thanks for the info Anonomus Coward. I will now go to the MGM Grand and stagger immediately to the Rum Bar for some Stroh 80.
Had this in austria about a week ago. We called it 80% love, which we washed down with a hug (swig of white wine) and a kiss (big shot of amareto)
FUN TIMES ON THE BUS
Best stuff to use when you are sick! Get some strong tea and add a few dollops of stroh to the tea (let the tea cool a bit so you do not burn off the alcohol)
Go right to bed and have a fitful sleep!!
Kills any of those ‘nasty’ germs!!!
Makes a fine tincture out of any good medicinal herb. At 80% and great flavor, it hasn’t been beat yet.
I had this for the first time the other night. The bar must have mixed it light (with coke) as it didn’t have the impact I thought it would.
I like it though, I thought it had an eggnog taste to it, must be the spiced rum with vanilla.
Good stuff though, gonna get some more.
I was born and raised in Germany and traveled all over Europe. Austria has this wonderful Rum that is made into a drink called GROG in the winter time… it prevents from getting cold and also, we use it in cake… I add about one or 2 shots of it instead of milk or vanilla… boy we sure love to eat it since the alcohol is baked out but the flavor stays in…. you should try it. Thanks Claudia
Thanks for the comments. It is some tasty stuff. Mix it light for a spicy vanilla flavor, or mix it strong for a smooth kick.
I have not tried baking with it yet. Only has been consumed via liquid so far.
I took a trip to denmark about 3 summers ago and brought some back home with me to New Orleans. Have yet to open it. Does it only go well with coke?
bring it on
My.. my… just had my first sip… let’s just say it is love at first shot. It has a fine flavor and a cool burn going down. Of course, now I can barely distinguish the keys on my keyboard. Word to the wise, “Sip,don’t slam.”
Lee’s discount liquors located a few miles south of the Las vegas strip sells it.
