I was reading something about how people in the UK are crazy.  Or something like that.  Anyway, there was a comment from some random joe schmoe that struck me as humorous…  Here it is…

I can’t believe in our modern world how daft some rules are regarding dress codes. Making our soldiers where those ridiculous hats in this heat (well in general really), is pure madness. The heat they must suffer will surely ‘weaken’ them and effect their normal working state? If they were protecting me I’d prefer them to be ‘cooler’ and in a better state of health than burning up in this heat with half a bear stuck to their heads!

“half a bear stuck to their heads!”, I presume is in reference to the Bearskin hats worn by the Grenadier Guards (and other Regiments of Guards) on ceremonial Guard, such as that at Buckingham Palace. In contrast to Neil’s opinion that “I can’t believe in our modern world how daft some rules are regarding dress codes”, these hats have been traditionally worn since the mid 1700s, originally adopted by the French for the Grenade throwing Soldier. However hot they may look, it is with pride that these Soldiers wear them on duty, but I would admit that it is a good thing that they dont battle in them, unlike their former guardsmen during the Napoleonic Wars.

Im sure Neil would also find that they arent “weakened” by the non-cryptonite material and that they would rapidly doff the hat in order to fill an enemy full of lead, should the need arise. So, Im all for certain traditions, especially in our Armed Forces. Its what makes our chosen Regiments stand out and gives pride to those who wear it.

Now, what i DO regard as crazy dress code is People who wear a Turban on a motorbike instead of a helmet. But, dont upset those kinds of people (whoever they are). Thats worse than swearing at the Queen.

Yes, this country is bizzare.I find it equally ironic that we cant deport asylum seekers who have been refused asylum and nor can we deal with the human rights of suspected wrong doers from other countries, but we can quickly extradite 3 White Brit blokes tenuously suspected of some fraud in the Enron crash over to the US.

Lastly Kentucky. I hear that drinking alcohol, purchasing alcohol and selling alcohol is illegal in that State. I also hear that nigh on everyone owns a gun and the majority are strict church goers who say that JC says it is a sin to drink Alcohol. Now, big JC performed his first miracle by making wine and Im sure he liked a drink, but Im sure we feel alot safer knowing there are some well armed religious fundamentalists in the US :)

Having never been to Kentucky…I wouldnt know if anything I said is true, but..there we are.
