When you are watching a movie, do you sit in the back of the theater and talk the whole time? I dont. But when I go to see movies, there will be someone sitting behind us talking. Not just talking a couple of times during the movie, but the whole movie. Most of the time the person talking seems to be translating the movie into spanish to whomever they are with. The latest movie we saw was Walk the Line. Right behind us was an old man who kept commenting to his wife about the movie. He pointed out everytime there was an old Cadillac on the screen. The movie would hint at what musician is being portrayed (and it was usually pretty obvious) but the old man had to keep saying the full name everytime as if the theater was his Jeopardy stage. During the quiet intimate dialogue parts, the old man couldnt hear it, and said “I dont see who can hear this” assuming that everyones ears were as shot as his. I could hear it just fine, but I could hear his old man voice even more. When you go to a movie, keep your mouth shut.

Well, my computer is back up and running. It still wont die. Or maybe its that I just keep fixing it? The C: drive that held Windows got corrupt. I tried to view the drive with another computer and it said there was a “cyclic redundancy check” error. I dont know what that means exaclty, other than its not good. So, I formatted the drive thinking that maybe it was just code rot. Hopefully its not an actual worn out part of the physical drive. We will se

I then partitioned the drive into 2, and installed Ubuntu linux on one partition and Windows XP on the other. I still see a new computer on the horizon…

Lots going on the next few days (starting today). Today we are going to my moms house in Gurnee. We are staying the night. Then tomorrow morning (Christmas eve) we, including my mom, are coming back to -k’s parents house for dinner and holiday fun with her extended family. Then Christmas day, my mom is flying to San Diego to see my sister and -k and I will be staying here in La Grange and having just her family get together for dinner. After Christmas day, well, nothing is planned and I like it.

So, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. And if you are Jewish, then too bad.

Well, yesterday I turned off my computer (normally its on all day everyday) and it didnt want to turn back on. It starts up, you see the BIOS screen stuff, then when its supposed to load windows, it says that Windows was not loaded properly last time, and try to boot in Safe Mode. This only sends it into an infinite loop of rebooting and saying the same thing every time. My thought is that the hard drive may be bad. I think it is the original 40 GB drive that came with the computer almost 5 years ago. Maybe the drive is just bad, or going bad. Maybe its a sign to just buy a new puter.

I have been looking at putting together a new PC finally. My old and current PC was purchased in May of 2001. Thats almost 5 years old and this computer is still kicking. It crashed more when it was new. Somehow I have given it what it needs to continue its life and it wont die. I still keep looking at new parts, trying to piece together a new pc with all the new (but not cutting edge) technology. PCI- Express, RAID SATA drives with 10k rpm, multiple gigs of ram, high end video cards… but, my old pc still keeps going. It is crippled by most games out now, but it still allows for them to be played. For example, the Battlefield 2 demo works pretty well, HalfLife 2 works, and counterstrike source works and looks better than the original counterstrike. Another reason I have not bought new yet is that I have way less time to play games than I used to. I used to somehow play 3-4 hours or more a night of CS, and even more on weekends… now I would be lucky to play just 1 hour during a weeknight.

I really want to play a smooth version of Battlefield 2 at home, but I have to somehow kill my old pc. Why wont it die?
