One of the most popular ways to control the people of Rome was to give them
“bread and circuses”. In other words as long as the people were occupied
with entertainment the business of politics could go on relatively worry
free.
I feel the UK is currently in the same position. We are all so involved with
our tv’s and pc’s that the really important things are overlooked. I dont
think anyone in the UK is wanting to be involved in any war in Iraq or
elsewhere. We divert ourselves from the unthinkable with all sorts of
pastimes.
There is a feeling of “whats the point” when it comes to the public voting
in elections no matter what they are for. I vote because as a woman my right
to vote was fought for by the suffragettes. But that is the only reason! It
is not because I believe in one party above another.
However, I still believe that one person has the power to change the world
for the better. History is littered with people who have just done that. But
are our current world-changers too busy being entertained
