It took me some time to realise that service quote about Kosovo, not because I didnt understand it but that I could not believe it!! (Perhaps you could says his geography was a little off…)
I have come to realise over the last few months that there is such a thing as knowing too much as well as knowing too little. I think there is a mid way where you can be informed but not overwhelmed and this is the path I will take with the media from now on. For this reason I have moved from “The Telegraph” to “The Times”. I think “The Telegraph” is in danger of becoming a tabloid…. (I will get around to Israel honest but following this thread is fun!)
I think all of us are in danger of rolling into protective balls (like hedgehogs). I know I have. But doing this keeps your eyes on yourself and not to the welfare or concern of others.
UT and I have wondered whether we can change the world. He may not know it yet but he already has in his children. I think I am a world changer, because I believe this world can be changed from one day to another. Never underestimate the difference a smile can make, or a small amount of change placed in a charity box. Not everyone has to be on TV….

…….its all about the money. Everything falls into that saying, not just the media. I can choose to form my opinions based on the media’s points of view or not and that the angle taken and repetition of information actioned by each news agency goes largely hand in hand with the political stance of that agency. That, I think, is fair enough in my small world, but then again, I’m not subject to the same censorship laws that other people in other countries are. Even though some news items are over exposed, it is not really that much of a problem for me. Media fatigue is relative.
One thing that is apparent which does tend to bewilder me is how alot of people in this country still don’t take on board any news at all. Now, I don’t know if any statistics exist to prove or disprove this but I can honestly say that I see on a day-to-day basis, many people, some of which are colleagues, who know nothing about what the hell is going on. Well, that’s up to them. I’m not about to force anyone to do anything else but when a service person says, “I’m not looking forward to spending 4 months in the deserts of Kosovo” then I have to ask myself how this stupidity came about.

What did I watch on Sept 11? My son, being sick. :-(

Hey UT I just have to reply to one of your posts in a way. I have this thing about the media… in the old days bad things would happen but would it get repeated ALL the time? No. When will the world come to a place of media fatigue, that’s all Im saying. I spent the 11th watching Yanky Doodle Dandy (wasnt Cagney a great dancer!) and found my new favourite sport was on (Sumo on Eurosport). For all of us there comes a time to let go so lets move on media… unless you have something else planned for incident ghouls to gawp over…

Okay, so we survived Armageddon according to that prophet guy. What does happen to sandwich board men who spill the wrath of god upon us, “The end of the world is nigh”, and all that trumpet?

Anyhow, last night I sat down. Yes, a miracle in itself, but infront of me was that modern box of goggles that entertains me. I think it is called a t e l e v i s i o n!?!. However, upon this new fangled rotary drier was screened a programme of much severity. A programme that caused me to gulp, to tighten a knot in my fed belly. It was merely the video taken by the two French guys on Sept 11th. Merely? You may know this video. Narrated by Robert DeNiro and staged in a NY Fire Dept it follows the probation period of a young fire fighter who ends up being involved in the hapless, useless and senseless destruction of the WTC. And that was the meat in the programme. Seen it? Saw it?

Well, History has its witnesses and this was certainly a moment of utter confusion and desperate uselessness that no one could fix. Man started the hurt but couldn’t stop it. Bizarre eh? Kind of like a look inside to the rest of the world. Man starts the crap but cant end it. Reckless actions of stupid men. Even Osama bin bag said that he didn’t expect the WTC to fall down!!???! WHAT? Was this based on his extensive knowledge of flying hi-jacked planes into skyscrapers?

So…. we have been filled with clips of the terror and won’t ever be allowed to forget it. And why would we? It has done two things. Okay, three if you include destroying peoples lives, but it has certainly changed the world. Things will be because of it and now at least, I understand how damn confusing and senseless the whole thing was, is and always will be. However, Like I said before, history has its witness’ and through films like 9|11, we can all witness. Horrid as it is. There is a divide between them and us. Them and us? What is that? I don’t know yet, or at least I do and wont admit to taking sides, but isn’t that what happens? I don’t know, I wont say. I know that it is personal now for alot of people, whatever it is. Am I making sense? I don’t no. It matters not. Site verbage has no rules.
